Sewing up its spot atop the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division regular-season standings, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls track and field team claimed a three-way clash with Liverpool and West Genesee last Wednesday afternoon at LHS Stadium.
The Hornets prevailed, 85-57, over the Warriors, and held off the Wildcats 85.5-54.4 as Phoebe White won three races. White went two minutes, 21.80 seconds to edge Sophie Ryan (2:22.60) in the 800-meter run, claimed the 400-meter dash in 1:00.79 to edge Susan Bansbach (1:01.26) and would win the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.21.
Ryan would take the 3,000-meter run in 10:24.33 over Claire Walters (10:25.13) as Walters went 4:54.98 to get past Ryan (4:55.23) and Rebecca Walters (4:58.15) in the 1,500-meter run.
Gwen Shepardson, second in the 400 hurdles (1:09.20), was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.85 seconds. Cady Barns was a close second (13.41 seconds) to WG’s Caitlin Mills (13.39) in the 100-meter dash, but won the triple jump by going 35 feet 4 ¾ inches.
Abigail Zuber was second in the triple jump (34’9 ¼”) while also winning the long jump with a leap of 16’6 ¼”, just ahead of Barns’ 16’2 ¾”. Isabel Zuber cleared 7’6” in the pole vault to match WG’s Kelsey Fox.
Barns, joined by White, Palmer Madsen and Susan Bansbach (who was second in the 200-meter dash), tore through the 4×400 relay in 4:05.91, with Ryan, Lindsay Kilpatrick and the Walters sisters going 9:38.03 in the 4×800 relay.
F-M would lose both sides of the boys meet to Liverpool (103-39) and West Genesee (87-44), though Garrett Brennan won the 800 in 2:02.99 and the mile in 4:31.88 as Peyton Geehrer took the 3,200-meter run in 9:59.54.
Brennan, Nolan Chiles, Geoff Howles and Max Perry won the 4×800 in a swift 8:12.61 as Armando Adrian was victorious in the 400 sprint in 53.08 seconds.
Christian Brothers Academy had a meet at Marcellus last Wednesday, and lost both sides of it, with the girls falling 92-43 and the boys taking a defeat to the Mustangs.
CBA’s girls still had plenty of individual highlights, including a sweep of the distance races. Cory Knox went 5:10.4 in the 1,500, with Bri Pucci taking the 800 in 2:31.4 and Lea Kyle going 12:04 flat in the 3,000.
Anna Langlois added a sprint title for the Brothers when she sped to first place in the 100 in 13.8 seconds. Though the Mustangs swept the relays and won most of the field events, too, CBA’s Skye Ryan had a winning shot put toss of 28 feet.
