A series of victories helped the Jordan-Elbridge boys indoor track and field team to finish fourth in last Wednesday night’s Section III Class B-2 championships at SRC Arena.
In a meet postponed a week by a Feb. 7 winter snowstorm, the Eagles picked up 67 points, not far from the second-place total of 78 points by Hannibal as Cazenovia was third (75 points) and Clinton pulled away to win with 140 points.
Ethan Kinney was part of three victories for J-E, including the 600-meter run, the closest race of the night.
Kinney and Clinton’s Mesafint Ellingson nearly had a dead heat, but Kinney, in one minute, 32.605 seconds, was one-thousandth of a second ahead of Ellingson’s 1:32.606.
But Kinney wasn’t done. In the shorter 300-meter dash, he didn’t require a photo finish, Kinney going 37.57 seconds to easily beat out runner-up Robert Musante (Clinton), who posted 38.18 seconds.
And to close the night, in the 4×200 relay, Ethan Kinney paired with his brother, Logan, along with Nate Williams and Matt Sheldon to finish in 1:39.43, five-hundredths of a second ahead of Cazenovia’s 1:39.48.
Sheldon, Logan Kinney, Kenny Williams and Nate Williams were second in the 4×400 relay in 3:51.20, just behind Clinton’s winning 3:50.11. Kinney also finished fifth in the 300 in 39.49 seconds behind his older brother.
In the 4×800 relay, Sheldon, Kenny Williams, Lawton Schwarting and Sean Dristle got third place in 9:32.69. Schwarting was fifth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:03.65, while Williams took sixth place in the mile in 5:01.57.
Elsewhere, Austin Poticher had a third-place shot put toss of 38’9 ½”, matching that finish in the weight throw by heaving it 37’10”. Nate Jennings was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet. Ryan Chiaramonte was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.03 seconds.
Solvay had its boys team pick up 14 points in the sectional meet. Dylon Ewers had his best finish in the triple jump with a leap of 39’2 ¾” as J-E’s Zach Barber, who was seventh in the long jump, went 37’6 ¾” to finish sixth.
Ewers also needed 7.07 seconds to finish sixth in the 55-meter dash, also getting sixth place in the high jump by clearing 5’4”. Shane Spinner was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 34’8 ½” as Lars Seggar was fifth with 34’2 ½”.
But Solvay did a lot better in the girls sectional B-2 meet as Ashley Bosco’s pair of throwing titles accounted for nearly half the 45 points the Bearcats used to finish fifth in a 10-team field.
In the shot put, Bosco tossed it 39 feet 6 inches as Sabrina Garnett was fourth with 27 feet and Shareese Pierce (26’3 ¼”) was fifth. Then, in the weight throw, Bosco heaved it 35’6 ¾” to win again, this time with Garnett third by tossing it 30’8”.
Erica Bagozzi was third in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet as Cazenovia’s Katie Robbins (8 feet) prevailed, while Isabella Lambert went 31’5 ½” in the triple jump to claim her own third-place finish. Kyra Crossett took fifth place in the 55 hurdles in 10.26 seconds and was ninth in the high jump, topping 4’4”.
Jordan-Elbridge finished with 10 points, more than half of them from Theresa Dristle taking third place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:15.46 as she also cleared 7 feet in the pole vault to finish fifth.
Madison Daly, Hannah Fichter, Mia Delap and Meagan Jackson were sixth in the 4×400 in 4:57.58, with the Eagles also sixth in the 4×200 as that same quartet of runners finished in 2:06.81.
