Jamesville-DeWitt and Christian Brothers Academy have meets in consecutive weeks at Skaneateles. Going first, the Red Rams went to the YMCA Community Center last Tuesday night and earned a 94-84 victory over the Lakers.
Amelia Hesler led the way, first by teaming with Alexis Phillips, Emma Galletta and Mackenzie Moore to go under two minutes in the 200 medley relay, winning in 1:59.47. Then Hesler swam the 100 butterfly in 1:04.06 and won a 100 backstroke duel with the Lakers’ Lily Buchholz, going 1:02.33 to Buchholz’s 1:04.98.
Moore, in 26 seconds flat, topped Phillips (26.59) in the 50 freestyle after Emily Ninestein pulled away to win the 200 freestyle in 2:12.10, with Aleksandra Patalita second in 2:21.17. Sawyer Parker needed 57.70 seconds to hold off Ninestein (58.64) and win the 100 freestyle.
Galletta, Ninestein, Phllips and Moore would roar to a time of 1:45.60 in the 200 freestyle relay as Lauren Saletsky, with 182.15 points, finished second to Skaneateles’ Gabriella Capozza (188.15 points) in diving. Galletta, in 2:34.85, was inches behind the Lakers’ Grace King (2:34.68) in the 200 individual medley as King also won the 500 freestyle for the home side.
J-D went from there to defeating Auburn 94-79 at home on Thursday night, with Hesler again sweeping the sprints as she went 55.99 seconds in the 100 freestyle and tore to first place in the 50 freestyle in 25.58 seconds.
Moore claimed first place in the 200 IM in 2:37.34, with Saletsky getting 212.85 points as part of a 1-2 diving finish with Allin Liebler-Bendix (193,40 points). Moore, Hesler, Ninestein and Grace McGuire were first in the 200 medley relay in 2:02.25.
With superior depth, the Rams overcame the fact that Auburn won a majority of the races. Claire Alexander led the Maroons, beating Philips, 2:06.32 to 2:07.38, in the 200 freestyle, and also taking the 500 freestyle (5:39.81) as Sydney Murinka won the 100 butterfly (1:09.74) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.16). Alexander, Murinka, Maura Moochler and Kennedy Wilson swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.46.
As for CBA, it would take on Cicero-North Syracuse last Wednesday night at the Le Moyne College pool and win big, topping the Northstars 104-80 as Julia Torell was part of three different victories for the Brothers.
Individually, Torell would go 1:02.59 in the 100 butterfly, part of a 1-2-3 sweep with Grace O’Connor (1:10.28) and Ally Howard (1:14.43) that began the CBA getaway. Then Torell won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.35, with O’Connor third.
Earlier in the meet, Torell, O’Connor, Lauren Kelly and Kaitlyn Bushnell blazed to a time of 2:00.29 to win the 200 medley relay. Bushnell added a 50 freestyle title in 26.54 seconds as Darien Tompkins won twice, claiming the 200 freestyle in 2:06.79 and swimming the 100 freestyle in 58.07 seconds, with Katelyn Wendt third in 59.63 seconds.
Kelly posted the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke, going 1:09.65 after a second-place finish (2:21.34) in the 200 IM. In the 200 freestyle relay, Kelly, Tompkins, Wendt and Bushnell prevailed in 1:48.18 as Sam Lanzafame claimed the diving title with 220.40 points.
