Against its first Class A opponent of the season last Tuesday night at a chilly Bragman Stadium, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse team dominated from start to finish, the Northstars rolling past the Auburn Maroons 20-2.
A running clock was in place before the first half was over, C-NS racing out to a 13-0 lead. And it kept going as Meghan Duffy, with two goals and five assists, and Julia Alberici, with two goals and three assists, anchored the attack, helped by Brenna Duffy, who got four assists.
Megan Tryniski earned a team-high four goals. Samantha Tortora and Jessica Meneilly each scored three times, with Tortora tacking on two assists. Bryar Cummings and Mallory Eymer each got one goal and one assist as Olivia Africa, McKenna Scarlata, Jessica Foley and Isabella Orlando also earned goals.
Back home on Saturday afternoon, C-NS went to the Rochester area to face Webster Thomas (Section V), and while the margin was far less lopsided, the Northstars still put together a solid all-around effort during a 13-6 victory over the Titans.
Much like the Marcellus game a week earlier, things were close for a half, but then C-NS, up 6-4 at the break, pulled away in the latter stages with its seniors at the forefront as Meghan Duffy got three goals and three assists, pushing her past the 300-career-point mark, and Tortora finished with three goals and two assists.
Cummings wasn’t far behind, scoring twice and tacking on a pair of assists. Meneilly also had two goals as Tryniski, Africa and Brenna Duffy gained one goal apiece, Duffy adding an assist.
Meanwhile, Liverpool, who roared to a 3-0 start with a trio of home victories, met with harsh reality in last Wednesday night’s CNY Counties League opener when it went to Fayetteville-Manlius and never got into the conversation during a 15-4 defeat to the Hornets.
Though it was F-M’s season opener, it still ran all over Liverpool during a decisive first half, bolting out to an 11-1 lead, led by the trio of Mary Trop, Amanda Cramer and Kiera Shanley, who each would produce three-goal hat tricks.
Unable to recover, the Warriors saw Julia Sardella have a part in all but one of her team’s scoring plays, notching two goals and one assist. Cassidy Hall and Kate Salanger had the other goals. Marissa Madonna finished with five saves.
Liverpool hosts C-NS Thursday night after the Northstars were set to visit Baldwinsville on Tuesday and the Warriors would face Auburn before a Saturday trip to face the Syracuse City squad.
