All day Saturday, May 21, mini-golfers can support kids fighting cancer just by picking up a putter.
Big Don’s Wild River Outdoor Fun Center, located at 8408 Button Road, Cicero, and Fairmount Glen Miniature Golf, 210 Onondaga Road, Syracuse, will host Putt for the Cure, a fun family day of miniature golf along with raffles, face painting and balloons. Proceeds will benefit Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York and Make A Wish of Central New York. You must purchase a ticket in order to participate; visit ribbonsofgold.org/events.html and click on the icon of the location you prefer to visit in order to buy your ticket. Tickets are $12 each.
The event is organized by the Alexa’s Friends Foundation, which was founded by 11-year-old Alexa Bolton of Baldwinsville, who is fighting Ewing’s sarcoma. While undergoing treatment, Alexa found the hospital towels scratchy and uncomfortable on her sensitive skin, especially on her newly bald head. Her parents brought her a fluffy hooded character towel from home, which brought her comfort — and an idea to help others in her situation. Funds from the Alexa’s Friends Foundation will go toward purchasing a soft hooded character towel for each pediatric cancer patient upon admission to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in order to make their stay a little more comfortable.
Among the items being raffled off are an Apple iPad Air 2 and a Dell Chrome computer. Alexa herself will pick the winners.
