Flu season is just around the corner. Canton Woods is holding flu clinics from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and Friday, Oct. 28. Rite Aid/Walgreens will administer the vaccine. Call the center 638-4536 to let us know you are coming. Bring all your insurance cards.
National Grid Consumer Advocate. A National Grid Consumer Advocate is available at Canton Woods at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. National Grid Consumer Advocates assist low-income and special needs customers facing financial hardship. Advocates are available to provide early intervention, information on a variety of assistance programs, crisis bill pay management, outreach and education. If you have any question about your National Grid bill, this is the time to get answers.
AARP Defensive Driving returns. The next class is Thursday, Oct. 6. The class time is 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you are a member of AARP the fee is $20 and if you do not belong to AARP the fee is $25. Call the center at 638-4536 to register. Classes fill up quickly.
Looking ahead to October, the annual Limburger Cheese Party is almost here! The party will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. The cost is $6. This is Senior Activity Group event. They are able to keep the cost down thanks to a generous donation from Barnes Memorial. Stop by Canton Woods and make your reservation.
Canton Woods is hosting an Institute for Caregivers Class for Current and future caregivers, free and open to the public. Medicare: An Overview and Changes for 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. Contact Cynthia Stevenson, Onondaga County Office for Aging, at 435-2362 ext. 4993 to register.
The Office for Aging (Adult and Long Term Care Services) will hold a public hearing from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Canton Woods. Everyone is welcome to attend. This is an opportunity to express your concerns as an older adult, caregiver or interested individual. Your comments help the Office for Aging plan for future programs.
Canton Woods now has a medication return collection unit. This is a safe and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your unused medications. You may drop off your unused medication to the return box at Canton Woods from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Senior Nutrition. You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation (638-4536) and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $2.75.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Wednesday, Oct. 12, the menu includes shaved corned beef and Swiss cheese on marble rye with 1,000 Island dressing, steamed cabbage, carrots, and potatoes and diced pears. Make your reservation and join us for a delicious lunch!
Remember, Canton Woods will be closed on Monday, Oct. 10, for Columbus Day.
