On Wednesday evening, Aug. 3, the village of North Syracuse celebrated the completion of a large renovation project at its Lonergan Park (located behind Stickley Furniture). A brief re-dedication ceremony was held during the evening’s concert in the park. Local residents turned out to see the completed park renovations and to hear Mayor Gary Butterfield, Parks Director Teresa Roth and Assemblyman Al Stirpe, speak on the park enhancement project.
The project was made possible by a New York Economic Development Grant Program in the amount of $250,00 that Stirpe was instrumental in helping the village obtain. The village matched approximately $35,000 to the grant funds to renovate and upgrade several areas of the park, including:
- expanding the parking lot
- adding a new dance deck
- constructing a new handicap accessible restroom
- adding a new pavilion/picnic area
- replacing the roof on the storage building
- adding a new storage shed for North Syracuse Little League’s equipment
- re-landscaping the park entrance
- adding a new electronic sign at the entrance to the park.
The village is thrilled with how the project turned out, and community residents are reaping the benefits of the numerous park enhancements.
