To the editor:
As many of you know, I am running for Manlius Town Judge. Over the past several months, I have met many of you at your door and I have been impressed with your questions. It has been a pleasure meeting with you and discussing my campaign. For those of you who I have not had the opportunity to meet, I offer this letter and an answer to what I believe is the most important question: Why Tim McMahon?
For the past seven years, I have had the unique opportunity to work alongside a New York State Supreme Court Judge, who, in 2014, was appointed to the Appellate Division – Fourth Department. In my role as Judge Brian DeJoseph’s principal law clerk, I have been fortunate to review, research, and assist in the determination of civil and criminal appeals from 22 counties between Syracuse and Buffalo. Because of this invaluable experience, I am very confident in my ability to apply the law fairly and evenly and without error.
While I am the Democratic candidate for town judge, I do not believe that choosing judges based solely on political affiliation is appropriate. In my view, you should consider my proven legal ability, work ethic, professional experience and record of community involvement. A good judge at any level should be even-tempered and open-minded, but also capable of being firm when necessary, and should not be afraid to issue an unpopular decision.
I have been a resident of the town of Manlius for the past nine years. The town has truly embraced my wife and me, and I feel forever indebted to the community. I want an opportunity to give something back in the best way I know how.
I kindly ask for your vote on November 7th.
Timothy McMahon
