Beaver Lake Nature Center is offering an evening of music in celebration of Earth Day at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22, featuring Syracuse’s own Mike Powell. His style has been compared to musician and environmentalist Jack Johnson. Music, coffee, desserts and friends will complete this Earth Day celebration. Tickets, which are $20 per person, are limited and should be purchased in advance to guarantee admittance.
Build on your Nature Knowledge
Build on your Knowledge is a great way for children ages 6 to 12 years old to learn how to build structures that help nature. Children will join a naturalist from 10 a.m. to noon on the following Saturdays and construct items that will benefit wildlife:
- April 8: Build a Bluebird Nest Box
- April 22: Build a Pollinator Box (Earth Day)
- May 6: Build a Hummingbird Feeder
The cost is $7 per child, per session, and advance registration is required.
Woodcock Watch
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, a naturalist at Beaver Lake Nature Center will lead a Woodcock Watch with the aim of sighting one of these elusive birds and listening for their odd vocalizations. This springtime special offers the chance to hear the spring orchestra of American Woodcocks, snipe, and spring peepers. Transportation from Beaver Lake Nature Center to a local site is provided. $5 per person. Pre-registration required.
Spring Break + Earth Day = Earth Week at Beaver Lake
Beaver Lake Nature Center will be celebrating the 47th anniversary of Earth Day with a weeklong slate of activities during the upcoming school spring break. From Monday through Friday, April 17 to 21, the Nature Center will offer programs to get visitors outdoors and enjoying nature. Below is the daily schedule:
- 10 a.m. Featured Creature Talk – Learn about an animal that lives around Beaver Lake.
- 10:30 a.m. Exploring With A Naturalist – Visitors will hike Beaver Lake trails on a guided walk.
- 12:30 p.m. Nature Movie Matinee – Watch nature related movies
- 1 p.m. Featured Creature Talk – Learn about an animal that lives around Beaver Lake.
- 1:30 p.m. Exploring With A Naturalist – Visitors will hike Beaver Lake trails on a guided walk.
All activities are free with admission to the Nature Center.
Let’s Pretend: Program for Pre-schoolers
Beaver Lake Nature Center invites children 3 to 5 years old, accompanied by an adult, to a program titled “Let’s Pretend.” This fun, active program will have children learning about animals that live at Beaver Lake by acting out how they behave. Each program includes a craft and outdoor activities. The cost is $5 per child, per session, and advance registration is required. Each program starts at 1 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 12: “I’m a Deer”
- Wednesday, May 3: “I’m a Raccoon”
- Wednesday, May 10: “I’m a Snapping Turtle”
