A ceramic piece created by Liverpool High School junior Claudia Brown recently was selected for the 23rd Annual National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition, sponsored by the National Council on Education for Ceramic Arts (NCECA).
Brown created “Corn Vessel,” a large coil jar in the shape of an ear of corn with husks on top, during Ceramics class with LHS art teacher Danielle Ruggiero.
Approximately 1,200 ceramic pieces are considered for the national exhibition each year with only 150 selected for inclusion.
Brown’s ceramic piece also received a Silver Key during the CNY Scholastic Art Awards in February.
The National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition is an annual juried ceramic competition for kindergarten through grade 12 students in the United States. Designed to showcase the best K-12 ceramic work in the country, the exhibition typically takes place during the annual NCECA Conference. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCECA is in the process of organizing a virtual version of this year’s exhibition.
