An estimated 1,200 people turned out to the Landmark Theater in Syracuse this past weekend to view the 44th annual Cazenovia College fashion show, one of the college’s biggest events of the year.
Students in the college’s fashion design and fashion merchandising programs put together this year’s show, the them for which was “Modern Masquerade.” The April 29 event showcased the designs of underclassman, as well as the final collections of 12 senior fashion design majors.
The students in the fashion show production class, ranging from freshman to senior, worked for the past year to put together every element of the show, including runway design, lighting, choreography, music and advertising.
“This is the marquis event for the college,” said Tim Greene, college communications director. “This is a great opportunity for fashion students to show their talents to the community, and a great recruitment event for us too — a lot of potential students are here tonight.”
“The garments are fantastic this year, I think people will be very impressed,” said Theresa Staats, a business management senior who also served as the student director of the show. “We’re very excited.”
All the designers in the show used the Modern Masquerade theme in different ways — they started with that premise and then made it their own — while each of the senior collections had their own individual themes, said show Director Megan Lawson-Clark, who serves as director for the college fashion merchandising program and interim director for fashion design.
The designs displayed during the evening encompassed all ages, all genders and all markets.
“I came to this event last year when I had been hired but was not yet on the job, and it was one of the most amazing student productions I had even seen,” said Cazenovia College President Ron Chesbrough. “I’m thrilled to be back.”
This year’s fashion design seniors include Emily Bilotti, Brooke Burglund, Victoria Emery, Katrina Gai, Chyna Harrison Jennifer Livulpi, Brittany Londos, Sarah Losito, Kristia Otey, Julia Puttre, Jessica Russo and Katherine Scherz.
The fashion merchandising seniors are Rachel Case, Charlie Crouse, Tyne Emery, Hannah Fitzgerald, Brianna Goodwin, Katelyn Gorczynski, Hannah Gray, Kayla Hummel, Larissa MacAllister, Mercedes Moody, Ezmira Neshawait, Shannon O’Brien, Desire Rico, Theresa Staats, and Iriscelis Tirado.
