Voters have approved the Baldwinsville Central School District’s proposed budget for the 2012-13 school year with 1,224 residents voting in favor and 306 voting against. Residents also passed a separate proposition for the purchase of eight school buses with 1,074 voting in favor and 437 voting against.
The $92,416,182 approved budget for the 2012-13 school year reflects a .28 percent ($263,067) decrease in overall spending. It also reflects a $317,000 increase in the tax levy due to cuts in federal funding, sales tax money and revenues. This means residents of the Baldwinsville Central School District will see a .65 percent increase in their 2012-13 school tax bill.
The approved proposition allows the district to purchase eight school buses at a cost of $931,000 including four 65-passenger buses, one 30-passenger bus, one long wheelchair bus and two short wheelchair buses.
Overall, $1,702,018 in total reductions were made to the budget including cuts to staff, late bus runs and facilities’ use and maintenance.
The budget vote was held from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. today in the Baker High School auditorium. Copies of the budget can be reviewed in the district office on the campus, 29 East Oneida St., B’ville.
