Justin M. Young, 25, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of Manlius, entered unto rest on June 23, 2023.
Born in Winston-Salem, NC on June 9, 1998, he was the son of Daniel and Patricia Young. Moving frequently during his childhood, he lived in Farmington, N.Y., and Fredericksburg, VA, before arriving in Manlius. He was a 2016 graduate of FM High School and a 2020 graduate of SUNY Brockport, where he participated in ROTC.
He took great pride in serving his country, and after completing the Basic Officer Leadership Course in Fort Knox, KY, he was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. Assigned first to Fort Benning, GA and then to Ft. Riley, KS, he was a member of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team 3-66. He deployed as part of Operation European Assure, Deter, Defend. Shortly after he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant.
Justin was an avid fitness enthusiast, and he enjoyed running, weightlifting and boxing. He participated in Mountain Man memorial runs in the mountains of TN, as well as finishing a 26 mile run with a 45 pound ruck sack in honor of fallen soldiers.
Surviving are his parents, Daniel and Patricia Young of Manlius; sister, Lauren Young of Franklin, MA; brother, Michael Young of Fayetteville; and grandparents, Roland and Sylvia Young of Uxbridge, MA.
Calling hours will be Sunday, July 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Newell Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Road, Manlius.
