On February 26, 2022, God asked for a hand and in return received a kind, gentle, loving soul. Harold G. Fradenburg, 86, of Cazenovia, transitioned peacefully into his eternal spiritual world with his two loving daughters by his side.
Harold was born April 25, 1935, in Syracuse to Harold and Jane Fradenburg. He was a graduate of Cazenovia High School and SUNY Morrisville with a degree in automotive technology. Harold was the “go-to guy” if anything needed to be fixed. He was proud to have served in the Army Reserves from 1957-1963. After retiring from Honeywell in Liverpool and Local Union 267 in 1998 where he had been employed for over 30 years as a steamfitter, Harold and his wife travelled extensively. Harold was a much loved member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Syracuse.
In 1946, the Fradenburg family moved from Syracuse to Cazenovia where Harold taught himself to ski, sail and golf. He had a passion for the snow, the water and the greens and enjoyed sharing and teaching them to others. He became a ski instructor at Ironwood Ridge and Mystic Mountain. As an accomplished skier, he took pride in serving on the Toggenburg Ski Patrol and as the Ski Patrol Leader at Mystic Mountain for many years. He continued to enjoy skiing at Labrador Mountain with his daughter, son-in-law, and friends until he was 82 years old. Harold was a skilled sailor and cherished sailing both his Comet and Laser boats on Cazenovia Lake. He also loved to water ski and take his daughter and grandchildren out in his boat when they came to visit. The game of golf he would try to perfect and participated in numerous golf leagues. Camping with his family was another memorable pastime.
As a teen he worked at The Chocolate Shop in Cazenovia which fueled a lifelong love affair with ice cream. Harold always enjoyed watching basketball, baseball and football on TV, supported the Cazenovia Lakers Football Team in the stands every fall, and, most of all, was proud of his grandchildren on the soccer fields. Harold felt peace when he listened to his daughter play the harp.
Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley E. Penoyer Fradenburg, whom he has adored since their first date at the junior prom and who will miss his everlasting love and support; his daughters, Linda West (Steven) of Cazenovia and Lorie Myers (Joy) of Fairport, who will miss their “Daddio’s” affection, advice and presence on the ski hill, on the water and on the golf course; two grandsons, Tristan and Cameron Myers, who will miss “Papa’s” smile, warm embraces and a good game of Sequence. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, several nieces, nephews and friends who cherished his infectious laugh and positive attitude. In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Fowler and by his brother, Paul Fradenburg.
“Peace Be Still, Dad, Peace Be Still”
