David C. Webster, 59, of Cazenovia, died unexpectedly on May 8, 2017, at home. Born to Robert and Doris (Eversfield) Webster, David attended Kent School and graduated from Cazenovia High School, Ithaca College and received an MBA from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School.
David was senior vice president with the Marine Division of Markel Global Insurance Company in New York City. David was a survivor of 9/11, escaping his office on the 47th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. He heroically and intuitively directed and helped evacuate all of his staff on that dreadful day.
David was a member of the Willow Bank Yacht Club, the Cazenovia Golf Club and the Cazenovia Club. He also served on the Cazenovia Town Board of Assessment Review and the Cazenovia Club Board of Governors.
David married Sarah (Helbig) in September 1986. Their two sons, Peter and Samuel, were the center of his great pride. He enjoyed wrestling with them as children, coaching their youth hockey teams and was continually impressed with their scholastic and life achievements.
David enjoyed following the Boston Bruins, college lacrosse and live musical performances, especially jazz. His greatest hobby was boating, from chartering sailboats in the Caribbean to sunset cruising in his boats on Cazenovia Lake. His dream was to buy a trawler and experience the Great Loop and cruise the inner coastal waterways.
David was predeceased by his father, Robert C. Webster. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sarah; his two sons, Peter and Samuel; his mother, Doris Webster; his sisters Sally (Susan Bassett) Webster of Geneva, and Susan Webster of Covington, GA; his mother-in-law, Marcia Helbig of Cazenovia; a sister-in-law, Amy (Dave) Swords of Harwich, MA, and three nieces and a nephew.
