Two consecutive rain-soaked Saturday afternoons have produced a pair of victories for the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team at large-scale meets.
Having won the Chittenango Invitational on April 26, the Northstars again got to the top in the East Syracuse Minoa Invitational a week later needing 120 points to hold off Baldwinsville’s second-place total of 118 points.
A 1-2 sweep in the 200-meter dash had Jaydin Mackey beat the field in 26.39 seconds to the 26.61 of Selena Moreno, while in the 400-meter hurdles Stephanie Todd prevailed in 1:06.17 more than four seconds ahead of anyone else.
Later, in the 4×100 relay the Northstars’ quartet of Todd, Moreno, Mackey and Grace Murray ducked under 50 seconds, winning in 49.99 as Pulaski (51.58) was second. C-NS also was second in the sprint medley relay in 4:31.62 to B’ville and third in the 4×800.
In the 400-meter dash Aaliyah McDonald claimed victory in 1:00.94 to the 1:01.95 of B’ville’s Mariah LeGrow, and McDonald later won the 100 hurdles in 14.67 well clear of the 15.37 of ESM’s Amber Hayes.
Moreno’s victory came in the long jump where, going 16 feet 1 ¾ inches, she was more than a foot clear of the field as Alexandra Wissar finished seventh. Anna Eells again dominated the triple jump going 39’7” as Moreno was third with 32’7 1/2” and Brianna Kurpiewski took fourth in the shot put.
Murray, in 13.01 seconds, was just behind Pulaski’s Vanessa Trumble (12.96) in the 100-meter dash, with Moreno eighth. Cameron Sisk ran to second at 1,500 meters in 4:56.47, with Kennedy Jones sixth as Grace Scoville got sixth place in the 800-meter run in 2:29.17, with Isabella Petrera (2:30.55) in eighth.
C-NS had its boys team pick up 83 points in the ESM meet, second only to B’ville’s total of 101, but it included a win from Camron Ingram tearing through the 200 in 22.81 seconds as no one else broke the 23-second mark.
A 1-2 finish in the 800 had Tyler Graham pull away to win in a quick 1:57.64 given the wet conditions more than seven seconds ahead of the second-place 2:04.77 from Joe Massett. Then, in the 4×800 relay,
Dominic Petrera, Evan Champ, Ben Rose and Nolan Zinsmeyer beat the field in 8:57.11 to the 9:00.32 from runner-up Skaneateles.
Anthony Johnson in the long jump as his 20’8 1/2” was just ahead of a similar jump by the Bees’ Arthur Bullock. But Johnson was an undisputed winner in the triple jump going 44’5 1/4” as Matt Freeman was third with 41’3 3/4”.
Rhett Andrews, in 4:38.16, beat out Dante Melfi (4:38.58) for third place in the 1,600, while Petrera gained fourth place in the 400 sprint in 54.46 seconds, with Xavier Coakley seventh in 55.25. Andrew Potter was fifth in the shot put throwing it 39’6 3/4”.
Liverpool went to Saturday’s Hilton Invitational where Ty’Kere Jones, in the boys shot put, threw it 45’11 3’4”. Josh Vang ran the 1,600 in 4:35.70 as Brian Juston put up a time of 10:44.08 in the 3,000 steeplechase.
The girls side for the Warriors included Nahla Battle-Crenshaw going 12.50 second in the 100 sprint ahead of Mikayla Greene’s 12.87 as Maddie Devendorf went 16 feet in the long jump and Alainees Leon cleared 8 feet in the pole vault.
