CENTRAL NEW YORK – With the Cicero-North Syracuse boys tennis team getting the best of archrival Liverpool 5-2 back on April 23, the question was how the Northstars would follow it up.
It had to wait a full week to do so, but once it returned to the court C-NS continued its strong play, shutting out Auburn in a 7-0 decision.
To get that shutout required a pair of three-set doubles wins. Austin Fosberg and Zarin Liangsri outlasted Colby Wagner and Chase Abdelaziz 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, with Joe Johnston and Evan Scott getting a 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 6-4 decision over Evan Steinbacher and John White.
Cameron Walker and David Duru topped Owen Bennett and Patrick Hogan 6-3, 7-5, with Drew Errante and Jackson Dufort working past Kevin Lui and Ethan Jensen 6-4, 6-3.
Up in singles, it was more lopsided. Mike DeGroat handled Owen Mahunik 6-1, 6-1, with Alex Kling topping Noah Mahunik 6-0, 6-2 and Parker Cook working to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jonathan Salvage.
Liverpool was also successful last Wednesday in a 7-0 win over Oswego, improving to 4-2 overall before Friday’s match with Syracuse City was rained out, to get made up alongside matches this week with Jamesville-DeWitt, Fayetteville-Manlius and Auburn.
C-NS also had a Friday match rained out, against Central Square, which it hoped to squeeze in this week with three other contests that include Syracuse City plus West Genesee and East Syracuse Minoa.
