John Robert Rasimas, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away on March 11, 2017, with family at his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary (Judzent) Rasimas, two brothers, one sister and an infant son, Richard. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Trudy; son John Rasimas Jr (Kathy), daughters: Susan Rasimas, Dawn Hertel (Alan), Priscilla Moyer (Michael). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren – Heather, Jennifer, Rebecca, Emily, Carolyn, Stephanie, Sarah, Paul, John and Peter; 11 great-grandchildren and extended family. John was known to his family as John, Dad, Grandpa and Poppy John.
John was born at home on May 16, 1927, in New Haven, Connecticut and served in the Navy during WWII. He married Trudy and they moved to Syracuse to operate their dry cleaning business. He sold commercial laundry equipment, owned laundromats, a car wash and apartments. John was a true entrepreneur who was always looking for the next opportunity. He loved golf, having played in the same golf league for nearly 60 years, traveling and boating. He truly loved being on his boat on the St. Lawrence River where the “sun always shined.” There are many, many fond memories of the Thousand Islands, trips on the Rideau Canal and staying at The Opinicon with family and friends.
John loved traveling around the world. He was the eternal optimist and was always ready for the next adventure. In his later years he was focused on family and was happiest when he was with them. The family would like to thank all who cared for John these past two years.
