LIVERPOOL — Local Republicans are expected to back two incumbents for re-election this year: Liverpool Mayor Gary White and trustee Christina Fadden.
When the Village of Liverpool Republican Caucus convenes at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, attendees will also be asked to nominate a former trustee, Dennis Hebert, who served on the village board from 2007 to 2017.
In Hebert’s last few years there, White appointed him deputy mayor. After Hebert left the board, White appointed Fadden as deputy mayor.
Hebert will run for the seat vacated by Trustee Jason Recor, who is leaving the village board in order to run for Salina’s First Ward town councilor. Recor, who is employed as an account manager for Time Warner Cable Business, was first elected as a trustee in 2017.
Hebert is a professional financial planner and a member of the Onondaga Historical Association Board of Directors and chair of the Onondaga Community College Foundation board. Fadden works for Onondaga County as special assistant to the commissioner of social services for personnel and staff development.
White is a retired deputy police chief for the Syracuse Police Department and also ran an automotive supply business.
Thursday evening’s caucus, to be conducted by village Republican Chairman Joe Ostuni Jr., will take place in the Village Hall meeting room, 310 Sycamore St. All registered Republican residents of the village are welcome to attend.
The three candidates nominated by the caucus likely will run unopposed. Democrats have not fielded any candidate for village office since 2001 and have not conducted a caucus since that year.
Any village resident, however, may file an independent nominating petition in order to be listed as a candidate on the June 15 ballot. Petition forms are available at the Village Hall; 315-457-3441. To qualify, each independent candidate must collect a minimum of 50 valid signatures.
