On June 12, Village of Cazenovia Mayor Kurt Wheeler provided an update on the local response to COVID-19.
Wheeler reported that Cazenovia, along with the rest of the Central New York region, has entered Restart NY “Phase III,” which permits indoor seating at 50 percent capacity for restaurants and for providers of personal care services to begin again within the state guidelines.
Additional information on Phase III is available on the CazCOVIDResponse website or at forward.ny.gov/phase-three-industries.
As of Thursday, June 11, there were no confirmed positive cases in the Cazenovia School District area and only seven active cases throughout Madison County — the lowest number since March 30.
“To maintain this momentum, we are asking the public to keep up their efforts at the ‘basics’ — hand washing, social distancing and use of masks when you cannot distance,” Wheeler said. “The reward for our continued vigilance will be to continue our steady pace of economic recovery and to achieve long-term goals such as returning to school and athletics.”
The Fourth of July parade will form at 3:30 p.m. and step off at 4 p.m. from Green Street.
This year’s route will go from Green, north on Sullivan to Ten Eyck, south on Lincklaen, east on Albany and north on Forman back to Green. The total length will be about two miles, versus the traditional one-mile route.
Residents are asked to observe the parade from their own yards or to spread out along the route.
Participants and spectators will be asked to bring masks and use them if they cannot socially distance.
“We anticipate updated guidance from the state, but are planning on a vehicle and float parade at this time,” Wheeler said. “More details will be provided as it gets closer . . . We hope to have a high level of participation from local groups as we always do, to not only celebrate our nation’s independence but our success as a community in tackling the pandemic together.”
