Cazenovia girls lacrosse nets 21 in victory over IHC

Prior scores seven goals against Cavaliers; Chittenango routs Ludden/Grimes

CENTRAL NEW YORK – All through the first half of its regular season the Cazenovia girls lacrosse team bounced between victories and defeats, with one streak following another.

A second win streak evolved late in April, starting with an exciting 19-18 victory over Jordan-Elbridge and continuing last Monday night when the Lakers rolled past Watertown IHC 21-10.

Just as she did against J-E, Charlie Prior put together a seven-goal, one-assist performance, running her season total to 33 goals as she also had six against Homer on April 12.

Hayden Bubble scored four times and Tara Pratt got three goals. Maddy DeAngelis earned five assists as she and Sally Hughes both scored twice. Bridget Stromer-Galley had two assists as she joined Caroline Mehlbaum and Lexi New in notching single goals.

The Lakers’ game with Southern Hills 24 hours later was postponed and would get made up Monday night right before Cazenovia faced Mexico.

In the meantime, a trip to state Class D no. 8 ranked Westhill awaited on Friday night, and the Lakers did get plenty of goals but still was unable to keep pace with the Warriors in a 19-10 defeat.

Prior would land three more goals, helped by Bubble scoring twice and the trio of Pratt, Stromer-Galley and DeAngelis each getting one goal and one assist. Westhill’s Kara Rosenberger led her side amassing eight goals, helped by Grace Stroman’s four goals and Melissa Mondo’s two goals and five assists.

Chittenango was back on the field Thursday night and got a chance to unload against an overwhelmed opponent, the Bears running past Bishop Ludden/Bishop Grimes by a score of 17-4.

Four different Chittenango players – Reese Ferstler, Anna Lazzaro, Persephone Rohrer and Gracie Hayes-Brazell – picked up three-goal hat tricks and had one assist apiece. Helping them out, Peyton Buck scored
twice, as did Solana Rohrer, with Sequoya Roberts earning a single goal.

This week Cazenovia and Chittenango face each other Thursday night. The Lakers also have Mexico and General Brown as he Bears also take on Cortland and Johnson City.
