SYRACUSE — Lysander Town Clerk Lisa Dell has been elected Onondaga County clerk. Dell, a Republican, received 61.37 percent of the votes. Democrat Kerin Rigney received 38.55 percent.
“It’s not a big shocker because a lot of people vote down party lines. She had more lines than I did and this was an off-year election,” said Rigney, who is a member of the DeWitt Town Board.
Rigney said she was excited to receive 25,243 votes. Rigney said she met with Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, who encouraged her to stay in politics, she said.
“I just want to thank the voters for having the confidence in me to elect me as their next county clerk,” Dell told the Baldwinsville Messenger.
As for what’s next for her, Rigney will remain on the DeWitt Town Board.
“I am very excited that my fellow Dems won the election,” she said.
Democratic incumbents Kerry Mannion and Karen Docter received 26.58 percent and 22.11 percent of the votes respectively. Democrat Sam Young received 2,868 votes compared to Republican candidate Mike Durkin’s 2,825. With a small difference of 43 votes, it’s too close to confirm a winner as 222 absentee ballots have not been reported yet. Results from the absentee ballots will be counted in 13 days.
