Onondaga County — For the third election in a row, incumbent Onondaga County Legislator Danny Liedka, a Republican, has defeated Democrat challenger Lorene Dadey in the district 7 seat. Results from the Nov. 3 election reported by the Onondaga County Board of Elections gave 52.01 percent to Liedka and 47.78 percent to Dadey.
“Hard work paid off, plain and simple. I’m very excited,” said Liedka. “We’re in a district that does not favor my enrollment and we have to work ten times as hard to get across the finish line.”
District 7 covers the village of East Syracuse and northern parts of the town of DeWitt. Both Liedka and Dadey have served as mayor in East Syracuse. Dadey was defeated by Liedka twice in close races in 2011 and 2013.
“I’m disappointed. They ran, at the end, a really nasty campaign. It’s not the democratic way and was filled with stuff that really wasn’t true…It discourages people from running,” said Dadey.
Dadey said she is unsure at this point if she will run for office again. Onondaga County Legislature seats have a two-year term.
