Cicero — Less than 120 votes separated Tim Burtis from Ed Szczesniak on Election Night as they battled for Onondaga County’s Third Legislative District.
Burtis held the lead with 2,248 votes, or 51 percent. Szczesniak had 49 percent of the vote at 2,129. Szczesniak said Tuesday night he wasn’t sure yet if he would challenge the results or ask that the absentee ballots be counted, but he ultimately conceded the race shortly after midnight.
Burtis could not be reached for comment on Election Night.
The third district covers the entire town of Cicero and part of the town of Manlius.
Meanwhile, at the town level, in a heated race, Mark Venesky beat out Judy Boyke for the town supervisor’s seat in Cicero. This is the third time Boyke has failed in her bid for the office after being ousted in 2011.
Venesky garnered 3,051 votes to Boyke’s 2,135.
Venesky, who was first elected as a town councilor in 2013, will be joined by fellow Republicans Richard Cushman (2,967 votes) and Vern Conway (3,014). They beat out Democrats Lynn Jennings (2,196 votes) and Gary Williams (1,847 votes).
Running unopposed were Town Clerk Tracy Cosilman, who received 4,371 votes, and Highway Superintendent Chris Woznica, who received 4,354 votes.
