The North West Fire District has been approved for a U.S. Department of Agriculture loan in excess of $2 million.
The NWFD will purchase two fire stations from the Baldwinsville Volunteer Fire Company, Station No. 1 (located at 7911 Crego Road) and Station No. 2 (7461 State Fair Blvd.) for $2,065,407. Voters approved the purchase of the stations — but not the construction of a new station on Smokey Hollow Road — in a Sept. 22 referendum.
In an Oct. 1 email to the Messenger, Fire Commissioner Jack Kline wrote that the fire district received confirmation Sept. 30 that the USDA had approved a loan to the fire district in the amount of $2,065,000.
“Over the next weeks, we will be completing all the paperwork and closing on the purchase of the properties sometime in November,” Kline wrote.
As for the failed proposition to build a new Station No. 3, the district will begin holding informational meetings to decide the next course of action. Dates for those meetings have yet to be announced.
