Reward being offered to information leading to an arrest and conviction of person responsible
Detectives with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office recently held a press conference announcing that are continue to investigate the 1996 murder of a Syracuse woman, Carol M. Ryan.
On Aug. 31, the family of Carol M. Ryan along with the sheriff’s office held a conference asking the public for any information that may lead to the resolution of this 20-year homicide investigation.
On Sept. 1, 1996, Ryan, then 42, was discovered in the morning beaten and left to die along Route 91 near the Jamesville Reservoir. The victim was transported to University Hospital where she later died from her injuries caused by an explosive device. The victim was last seen alive around 2 a.m. on Sept. 1 in the Eastwood area of Syracuse in the 2700 block of James St. after leaving the East Room Bar.
As it being the anniversary of her murder this Labor Day weekend, detectives said they believe with the passage of time, someone may be willing to come forward with information that may be the key to solving this cold case and help bring a sense of closure to the Ryan family.
The Sheriff’s Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person found responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office tips line by calling 435-3051 or by sending a tip to tip411.
