Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cazenovia Farmers Market has been on hold.
Sponsored by the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce (GCACC), the weekly market features ‘Good and Local’ foods and crafts.
According to the GCACC, the summer market will open on May 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Village Green, between Emory Ave. and Green Street in front of Cazenovia High School.
“Whew, talk about a spring tornado; that’s what it has been for the last [few] weeks working to get the market up and running with the COVID-19 policies [changing] almost daily,” said GCACC Executive Director Anna Marie Neuland.
Last month, the GCACC hired Lacey Cashman of Mountain Grown Farm as the 2020 FM manager.
Cashman, who has been with the Cazenovia Farmers Market for the past 10 years, also manages the Fayetteville Farmers Market.
“Having attended this market for [so many] years, I really wanted to make sure it continues on for decades to come,” said Cashman. “We see the market as a place for local farmers and producers to sell their goods, support the local economy, and support the health of the village.”
According to Cashman, the market will open with safety protocols in place for farmers and shoppers to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“We will be enforcing the mandate to wear masks, and social distancing,” she said. “We will have hand sanitizer and a hand washing station available, [and the] booths will be spaced out.”
The following vendors are currently offering online ordering and/or CSA sign-ups: Dizzy Lizzie’s Farm, Creekside Meadows Farm, Hartwood Farm, Frosty Morning Farm, Mountain Grown Farm, Landry Farms, Empire Buffalo, 7 Trees Dairy Goats, HeartStone Artisan Bakery, Meadowood Farms, FoJo Beans, Cleanslate Farm, Center Street Market 13032, Local Roots Farm, and Jake’s Gouda.
“What a state of confusion we are all in . . . “ said Casey Koehle of Landry Farms. “Personally, I am much more comfortable and healthier [when I shop] local and in a fresh air environment. I love talking to our shoppers, and I look forward to the Market weekly. . The families, the dogs . . . all the smiles . . . I can’t wait to see them all again. The community needs us and we need the community. Landry Farms is here; we aren’t going anywhere. We offer Poultry CSA for the community to have the guarantee of fresh meat. Individual sales are available as well. Our website has a pre-order section to help shoppers get to the market and have their poultry and eggs ready to go. We also have Facebook and Instagram to help reach our social media community. Supporting local means ‘liking’ and sharing those posts, it all means people know we’re here and here for them.”
