The new Aldi store in Cazenovia is scheduled to open Dec. 15, according to the developer. “Everything appears to be on schedule,” said Greg Widrick of Sphere Development.
Construction preparation on the Aldi began at the beginning of this year, despite two lawsuits seeking to kill the project. Both lawsuits were dismissed by judges, and the defunct Route 20 motel and café, which previously stood on the site, were demolished in late May.
Since then, the new Aldi building has been making steady progress forward. As of press time, the exterior brick walls, windows and roofing were completed; all of the floor was poured, sheet-rocking had commenced and the glass for the coolers was in, Widrick said. Paving of the parking lot is expected to be done before the cold winter weather sets in, he said.
In keeping with the typical Aldi tradition, a large grand opening event is expected to occur for the Dec. 15 opening, Widrick said.
“The reaction from the public has been great for me – people can’t wait, and I can’t wait for it to open either,” he said.
Aldi officials did not respond to requests for comment.
