The former Riverside Fitness Center is now under new ownership, but customers are staying the course at the village gym, according to Workouts B’ville manager Jamie Miccuci.
Miccuci, along with her daughter Taylre Miccuci and their business partner, Workouts 24/7 owner John Francis, moved into the gym at 19 E. Genesee St. in December 2014. Since then, they’ve overhauled nearly everything. Francis and the Miccucis have installed new floors and cardio equipment, bought fresh kettlebells and televisions and spruced up the gym with vibrant paint colors.
“It’s amazing how much it’s transformed,” Jamie Miccuci said. “We’re really excited — we’ve come so far in such a short period of time.”
While things may look new and different at Workouts B’ville, much of the same clientele still grace the gym with their presence.
“The majority of the members have been there since day one and they are very loyal to the club,” Francis said. “There’s older individuals who tell you stories about the past.”
Miccuci said customers have told her Workouts B’ville has a family-friendly atmosphere, welcoming everyone from children to the elderly.
“It seems that Baldwinsville is a very tight-knit community,” she said. “They like to stay within their community [to work out].”
As for what’s next for Workouts B’ville, Francis said he is taking it slow. The gym is introducing a few classes, such as the “Bootcamp with Wendy” series, which begins in April.
“Classes are tough because you need a commitment from people,” Francis said. “We’re going to experiment.”
The new owners also plan to fill in the pool at the gym to make room for sports conditioning programs for more serious athletes.
Francis said he is trying to strike a balance between upgrading the gym but maintaining the features that have kept longtime exercise enthusiasts returning to work out there.
“The response is overwhelming. We want to make sure our members are happy,” Francis said. “They appreciate it.”
