The Fayetteville Free Library Lobots won the Robot Performance Award at the FIRST Lego League Regional Championship at SUNY Poly on Saturday, March 10.
The mission of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership.
In FIRST robotics for grades 4 to 8, students build, program and compete with LEGO-based robots and research a real-world engineering challenge. Teams of three to 10 kids from grades 4 to 8 on school, club or neighborhood teams, combine LEGO Mindstorms system structures, motors, sensors and processors with user-friendly software to design, build, and program autonomous robots.
Tournaments consist of project presentations, robot game, design, teamwork and core values judging.
The FFL team consists of Andrew Ahn, Anthony Ahn, Spencer Hale, Isaiah Markle, Julia McKinnis, Justin Mould, Ansh Suvarna, Theresa White and coaches Pete Cioppa and Margaret Kingsport.
