Cazenovia High School seniors Devin Shon and William Moskvich each took home first place awards at the recent SkillsUSA regional competition at SUNY Morrisville February 2.
Shon and Moskovich both participate in the mutual CCSD / OCM BOCES Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Shon competed in the automotive service technology division and beat the previous record. Moskvich earned first in the category of collision repair.
SkillsUSA is a national leadership organization for students in the CTE field at both the high school and post-secondary level. At the SUNY Morrisville event, Shon and Moskovich both competed against several hundred CTE students from the Thousand Islands to Binghamton area.
With the win, Shon and Moskovich now advance to the state competition being held April 25 to 27 at the New York State Fairgrounds. Winners at the state competition advance to the nationals in Louisville, Ky., in June.
A first-place finish at the regional level also gives students a more than likely chance that some form of scholarship will result at their anticipated post-secondary institutions.
