The Erieville Nelson Heritage Society and the Town of Nelson have announced that the 2017 recipient of the Normal Odell Citizen of the Year Award is Richard “Dick” Benner of Nelson.
This award recognizes a citizen of the town who has made an outstanding contribution to the area in volunteer work.

He has, over the years, been sergeant-of-arms and adjunct (secretary). He is involved in meetings, funerals and currently he is overseeing the legion baseball field renovation project.

He has worked or chaired this race for 10 years, some years on his own. This is a large task coordinating with all agencies, gathering sponsors and running the race.
Benner is a proud and grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 37 years.
Benner lives in Nelson with his wife Patti, and he has three daughters. He has lived in Nelson most of his life and retired from the post office.
