Mirbeau Inn & Spa has earned yet another award for the quality of its offerings. The latest accolade, an Award of Excellence in the Wine Spectator 2012 Restaurant Awards, was a repeat performance for the spa’s wine bar.
Wine Spectator awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers. Mirbeau has won this award in previous years.
“In the restaurant business, it is one thing to be confident that you are providing a good product, and receiving recognition from Wine Spectator really solidifies our place in the community as a destination for guests who are seeking the classic pleasures one gets from a well-chosen wine,” said Douglas Hart, director of food and beverage for Mirbeau. “We have many on staff who are passionate about the selection and can help in the decision making process. Ed Clawson, beverage manager, is always sampling and working with local vendors to have an ever-changing and broad spectrum of choices not only on the wine list but also in our 24 bottle wine stations. These stations give customers the freedom to taste in smaller portions and to sample some of the world’s most desirable wines like Opus One or Caymus without having to commit to whole bottle.”
The wine stations at Mirbeau are state-of-the-art Napa Technology machines that allow customers to choose full glass, half glass or tasting portions of a selected wine without having to purchase a full bottle. The stations “add an interactive element to the social environment of the wine bar” by allowing guests to browse and sample a variety of wines at different price points, Mirbeau attests.
The Wine Bar at Mirbeau is one of only two in New York state with wine stations.
Mirbeau’s Wine Bar serves local wines alongside Opus One and Caymus labels from California as well as a wide selection of international wines. Wines can be paired with a variety of small plates including assorted artisanal cheeses, or with French and European-inspired menu items. The spa also offers numerous wine-related special events including tastings and wine dinners.
“We try every day to seek out upscale offerings and present them in a unique, fun and special way that helps the guest to have fun and relax while still having a refined experience,” Hart said.
Mirbeau also will be host to the New York Wine Festival for the third consecutive year on Sept. 28 through 30.
Mirbeau Inn & Spa is the only Forbes Four-Star Award winner for hotel, spa and restaurant in New York state, and an AAA Four-Diamond winner. It is also distinguished by the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, Top Ten Spas in the World in the categories of romance, boutique, yoga and cuisine in Spa Finder’s Annual Readers’ Choice Awards, Top Five Spas for Couples in the World in back-to-back years of Spa Magazine’s Silver Sage Readers’ Choice Favorites, has been awarded a spot on Condé Nast Traveler’s Top 30 Small Resorts in the US for three years in a row and won a 2011 SpAWARD for Most Romantic Spa.
