Fifty five years of service were recognized April 10.
Syracuse Home at McHarrie Life’s Auxiliary held its annual appreciation luncheon April 10 at the McHarrie Towne Center in Baldwinsville and two members, Marilynn Butcher and Beth Northrup, were honored for 33 years and 22 years, respectively, of service to the auxiliary.
“These two epitomize what it means to be a lady,” said former president Susan McKee.
She then presented the women with silver clocks as a memento of the auxiliary’s appreciation. McKee founded the president’s award in 2007 during her tenure as the auxiliary’s president.
Prior to the award presentation, the McHarrie Towne Singers performed. Afterward, McHarrie Life CEO Mark Murphy talked with members about campus statistics for the McHarrie Life facilities, as well as a need to expand on the McHarrie Towne concept, a housing development that focuses on independent senior living. Murphy said there are 150 people on a waiting list to move into McHarrie Towne, but only three spots have opened in the last year.
“It’s about the lifestyle,” he said, adding that many residents have said they have never been closer to their neighbors, even if they lived in a neighborhood for 45 years. “Here, they knew everyone in six months.”
McHarrie Towne offers an active lifestyle for seniors that include maintenance free housing, social activities and supportive services provided by nearby Syracuse Home.
