Bikes4Peace wins DISHES mini-grant

The Syracuse Peace Council’s Bikes4Peace program became the second community group to receive Salt City DISHES mini-grant at a dinner and arts fundraising event Sunday May 1.

Bikes4Peace was seeking funding for its series of fix-it-yourself bike repair workshops. To demonstrate how easy repairing your own cycle can be, two Bikes4Peace representatives fixed a flat tire using two spoons during the five-minute presentation.

The DISHES program, launched in January, provides an inexpensive opportunity for community members to become arts patrons. Money raised by selling tickets to the dinner is collected into a mini-grant of up to $1,000 and awarded to the project idea that receives the most votes by event attendees.

DISHES organizers announced the next event, planned for the fall, would be held outside and will not be awarding funding.

Tickets to the May 1 dinner, held in the St. Clare Theater on the North Side, sold out in five days.
