SKANEATELES — With June 20 just around the corner, there will be one more Father’s Day in Skaneateles without the Rotary Club’s Pancake Breakfast.
Although life is getting closer to back-to-normal, the Skaneateles Rotary Club decided that it is just too soon to attempt to serve more than 3,000 people all at once, said in-coming President Terry McCormick. Work to put on the annual breakfast begins months and months in advance, and so it was hard to predict over the winter where society might be by June 20, he said. The club decided to put safety first.
“We want to wish all dads and families a happy Father’s Day this year, and we hope you will put the pancake breakfast on your calendar for next year,” he said.
“What a feast of fun and community (not to mention pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, and juice) we will have a year from now. Hopefully, the sounds of the community band will fill the Allyn Arena as families reconnect,” the Rotary Club said in a press release.
The breakfast is one of Rotary’s biggest fundraisers each year. It helps Rotary support community groups and organizations (Boy Scouts, the YMCA, the Community Band, food pantries, to name a few), and allows Rotary to enhance life for young people by providing scholarships and leadership opportunities/seminars. Funds from the breakfast have enriched the community for decades with our award-winning youth exchange program – sending students to and receiving students from all over the world.
People who would like to support the club as it more quietly raises funds to continue supporting community causes, you can do so online at www.skaneatelesrotary.com.
Most importantly, though, plan to attend next year, McCormick said.
