Library keeps symphony experience alive
The Fairmount Community Library provided an opportunity for patrons to celebrate the arts in our community, despite the fact that many of our local arts organizations are shut down.
Partnering with Syracuse’s Symphoria, the library paid for 15 families to attend a virtual children’s concert on Halloween morning. By registering online, and receiving a link from Symphoria, patrons enjoyed a symphony experience in the comfort of their homes.
The children’s symphony, “Beethoven’s Ghost” features the music of the great pianist Beethoven. On the 250th anniversary of his death, Beethoven returns to present day to see how children enjoy his music.
“Thanks to the library for providing such a neat experience for our family,” said one FCL patron. “Symphoria did a great job explaining about the composers and music. It’s not every day we spend time together listening to classical music with our six and ten year olds. We really enjoyed the experience.”
“Many libraries right here in our community have truly stepped up to provide more experiences for families during COVID,” said Library Director Brenda Shea. “We realize our families want programming, and during this difficult time we can use our resources to provide unique and fun experiences for patrons to enjoy in the safety of their homes.”
The Fairmount Community Library plans to increase special programming throughout the winter season, and will continue to work with local arts organizations to bring arts and culture to the families we serve.
The Fairmount Community Library’s mission is to connect our community through information sharing, fostering communication and enhancing lifelong learning. Visit our website at fairmountlibrary.org for more information.
