Special Olympics CNY Snowshoe Invitational held in Caz

Athletes from four Central New York counties came to Cazenovia last Saturday, Feb. 3, for the third annual Special Olympics Central New York Snowshoe Invitational. Teams from Madison, Onondaga, Oneida and Tompkins Counties met at Cazenovia American Legion Post 88 to test their snowshoeing prowess.

The athletes competed in 25-, 50-, 100- and 200-meter snowshoe races and a 4×100-meter relay. Thirty-one competitors braved temperatures in the teens and winds gusting to 20 miles per hour in a morning of exciting races.

Medals were presented to the snowshoe athletes by members of American Legion Post 88 while all participants and volunteers enjoyed a post-competition luncheon. The snowshoe teams are preparing for the Special Olympics Winter State Games in Rochester later this month.
