Baltimore Woods’ member art exhibit features nature in many forms
It has been said that “variety is the spice of life,” and this certainly holds true for the art works in the upcoming exhibit at Baltimore Woods Nature Center. Created by over 25 artist-members of Baltimore Woods, the pieces are as varied in subject, media, and style as the interests and the personalities of the artists themselves. “Drawing on Talent” takes place from Nov. 3 through Dec. 22 in the Art Gallery of the Interpretive Center at 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus. An opening reception for the show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 2 until 4 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. In addition, visitors may browse the exhibit during open Interpretive Center hours: Monday through Friday (9 – 4) and Saturday (10-4). There is no admission or parking fee, and all of the art work is for sale.
Drawing on Talent, a members-only show, is in its ninth year. “We are really pleased to bring together artists from our community at Baltimore Woods”, says art gallery coordinator Karen Jean Smith. “There are yearly favorites as well as new artists. Visitors to the exhibit may even be surprised to learn of the talent of a friend or neighbor.”
The underlying theme of nature is certainly a broad one. According to Smith, “Our members bring to their work a special enthusiasm for nature. We have hikers, fishing enthusiasts, gardeners, canoeists, kayakers, snowshoers, botanists, geologists and people who simply like being outdoors. These are the experiences that make for a show with wide appeal for visitors”.
Gallery visitors will find a variety of subject matter, styles, and media including ceramic, mixed media, photography, as well as painting in watercolor, pastel, oil and acrylic.
Participating artists include:
