For the second year, we will hold our Church World Service CROP Walk at Austin Pavilion (the old ice rink) at 1 E. Austin St on Sunday, October 22. Registration begins at 12:30 with our step-off prayer at 1 pm. At this location you will have ample parking, the ability to walk indoors (rain or shine) and the option of using the walking path around the tennis courts in Austin Park or walking the 3.2mile (5K) route through the village to enjoy the fall colors outdoors. Please go online to: www.crophungerwalk.org/skaneatelesny if you would like to have people sponsor you online for the walk, or if you would like to donate to our walk. Otherwise, you can pick up sponsor donation envelopes at the following churches: Holy Trinity Lutheran, First Presbyterian of Skaneateles, St. Andrews’ UMC: Mottville, St. James’ Episcopal, St Mary’s of the Lake and Skaneateles, UMC.
Another way to donate is through our “Drink Water/Give Water” CWS/CROP water bottles which are available at the churches listed above. Clean water is a gift that we enjoy, but is not accessible to millions of persons around the world. The occurrence of the blue-green algae toxic bloom in our own lake this September taught us not to take clean drinking water for granted! The challenge is to place a dime in the emptied water bottle (once you’ve enjoyed the water!) every time you drink a bottle or glass of water. Then turn in your dime-filled bottle at the CROP Walk event on Sunday, October 22, or to the Skaneateles United Methodist Church office by October 31. As always, 25% of the money raised by the CROP Walk and our water bottles will stay locally to support the Skaneateles Ecumenical and Spafford Food Pantries.
This will be the 32nd year that members of the Skaneateles area churches and members of the community have gathered to help alleviate hunger among our own residents and around the world. This year the “Indoor Route” will have educational stations about the work of CWS along the way. Children participating in the walk can have their “passport” stamped at each station and redeem the completed passport for a small prize. Leashed dogs are welcome to join their family members on the walk, and all of the routes are accessible stroller and wheelchair friendly. For more information contact: Rev. Dr. Joellyn Tuttle, Skaneateles United Methodist Church (315)685-5963.
