The Onondaga County Department of Transportation will begin a project to rehabilitate Bridge Street and Milton Avenue in the Town of Geddes and the Village of Solvay. Contract forces will be establishing a work zone on March 27, 2017.
This project consists of improvements to Bridge Street from State Fair Boulevard to Milton Avenue, including the construction of a 16 foot wide promenade. Drainage improvements will also be made, with partial pavement reconstruction, which includes milling and resurfacing the existing asphalt pavement, and improvements to the Finger Lakes Railroad at-grade crossing near Milton Avenue. Work will also be done to extend a concrete culvert and constructing new wing walls. New street lights will be installed along Bridge Street, with benches, other ornamental features and landscaping. Bridge Street will remain open to traffic during construction for the duration of the project; however, single lane closures with alternating traffic will be required in order to complete the work.
Improvements to Milton Avenue will be made between Cogswell Avenue to Charles Avenue. This portion of the project includes full depth pavement reconstruction, sidewalk replacement, and improvements to drainage, and sanitary sewer rehabilitations. New lights will be installed along Milton Avenue, with benches, other ornamental features and landscaping. Additionally, signal improvements will be made at the intersection of Bridge Street and Milton Avenue. Milton Avenue will remain open to traffic during construction. Single lane closures with alternating traffic will be utilized to complete a portion of the work. For the remaining work, one direction of traffic will be maintained along Milton Avenue, while an off-site detour will be used for those traveling in the opposite direction. The off-site detour will be marked, and will consist of directing traffic to Bridge Street, to State Fair Boulevard, to Willis Avenue.
This project is the next phase in the ongoing effort to enhance and revitalize the Village of Solvay and the west side of Onondaga Lake. Once completed, people will enjoy an easy, convenient and pedestrian friendly connection from Solvay to the New York State Fairgrounds.
As with any highway improvement project, the Onondaga County Department of Transportation respectfully asks the traveling public to reduce your speed within the work zone, use caution, and be mindful of roadside workers and construction vehicles.
