Mayor Robert Tackman holds on to his cook-off title against East Syracuse Wegmans Chef
On Aug. 3, hundreds gathered outside of the East Syracuse Municipal Office building to celebrate the 11th annual Taste of East Syracuse. This annual event celebrates the culinary institutions in the area and gives East Syracuse Mayor Robert Tackman a chance to show off his cooking skills.
“The village got another beautiful day for the event this year,” said Tackman. “We’re so lucky to have so many great places to eat or buy groceries in the village, and this event helps us show thanks for that.”
Vendors included Twin Trees ,Tony’s Family Restaurant, Hell of a Big Bite, Scotts Scoops, Decadent Desserts, Oompa Loompyas, clams from East Syracuse Minoa Marching Band, s’mores from the East Syracuse Recreation Committee and baked goods from Collamer United Church.
Tackman was able to hold on to his cook-off title against East Syracuse Wegmans Chef Damian Price for the fourth year in a row. A group of about 20 celebrity judges chose Tackman to win with his pork and shrimp dish paired with fruit and chocolate. Price cooked up a Carribean Surf n’ Turf with a side of cole slaw.
Live music was provided by Noisy Boys Quartet at Taste of East Syracuse and emcee for the event was band member Chris Krupa.
Organizations at the event included Tillie’s Touch, the East Syracuse Recreation Committee, East Area Volunteer Emergency Services (EAVES), the East Syracuse Fire Department, the DeWitt Police Department, Helping Hounds, ESM Youth Sports Cheerleading and the Onondaga County Ladies Auxiliary Volunteer Firemans Association.
