Amateur built plane crashes on the Kirkville golf course

On the evening of July 15, an amateur built one-seater plane crashed into the fairway on Poolsbrook Golf Course in Kirkville.

Town of Manlius police report that at about 7:18 p.m., the plane was attempting a touch-and-go landing at Poolsbrook Airport, but slipped on wet grass at the take-off. Police say the plane was unable to gain proper altitude and banked sharply before crashing into the golf course.

The plane was piloted by Mark A. Pennel, 52, of Camillus. He was transported to Upstate University Hospital for neck and back pain, said police.

The investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is ongoing at this time.
