The McDowell Insurance Agency, formerly located in the White Lilacs building at 9 Albany St., has a new location at 133 Albany St., next to Buyea’s Hardware store. The firm, which offers a full range of insurance and financial services, made its move down Albany Street on Dec. 1, after White Lilacs changed owners.
The McDowell Insurance Agency was founded in Cazenovia in 1996 by William McDowell, who worked out of his house on Burton Street. In 2007, McDowell’s son Matt joined the agency, and took over ownership when his father retired in 2013. In 2014, Matt’s sister, Mary O’Malley, also joined the agency on a part-time basis.
The McDowell Insurance Agency is an independent agency that works with multiple insurance carriers to provide its clients with opportunities for comprehensive policies that are competitively priced. Along with home owners, automobile, business owner and worker comprehension insurance, McDowell is now able to offer commercial lines policies to small businesses.
“As an independent agency, we have the flexibility to tailor-fit customers to companies,” McDowell said. “We’re not a one-size-fits-all operation.”
In addition to insurance, the agency also offers financial services through National Planning Group of Schenectady, (with securities and advisory services offered through Cetera Advisors LLC) and its agent William K. Kopp, who works in the McDowell office in Cazenovia a few days a week.
“This partnership allows us to provide our clients with a full range of insurance and financial service,” O’Malley said.
O’Malley, who has her Life, Accident and Health Insurance license, is also currently working to obtain her securities license, which will allow her to sell securities/ investments as well, she said.
“Overall, we’re just in the process of trying to expand the business,” O’Malley said.
The McDowell Insurance Agency is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
