Jordan-Elbridge’s track and field teams swept its meet with Hannibal last Wednesday afternoon, beating the Warriors 78-63 on the boys side and by a closer 71-61 margin on the girls side.
In that boys meet, Zach Rink took the 110 high hurdles (17.3 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:06.6), while Russell Hines beat the field in the 400 (54.1 seconds) and 800 (2:11.8) as Austin Milton took the 100 (12.2 seconds) and 200 (24.3 seconds).
Nathan Hollis cleared 5’4” in the high jump, with Justin Quinn unleashing a discus throw of 114’8 ¼”. J-E also won the 4×800 (8:43.3) and 4×100 (48.1 seconds) relays, with Milton, Hollis, Hines, Kyle Humberstone, Gunner Ferris, Anthony Ortiz and Tyler Jackson taking part. Brad Marshall won the shot put, heaving it 40’1”.
Meanwhile, in the girls meet, Julie Hines prevailed in the high jump, clearing 4’4”, and the 200, which she ran in 27.8 seconds. Maggie Dejohn was first in the 1,500 (5:40.0) as Theresa Dristle ran the 800 in 2:39.0 and Mary Elizabeth Dristle won the 3,000 in 12:12.0.
Westhill-Bishop Ludden split its meet with CBA, nearly sweeping the field events on the boys side to register a 79-51 victory over the Brothers.
Jordan Roland won three times, going 18’3” in the long jump and 37’7” in the triple jump before he cleared 5’10” in the high jump. Donovan Whipple threw the shot put 38’1”, while Ben Eassa won the pole vault, topping 8’6”.
Xavier Fleurinor chimed in with first-place finishes in the 110 high hurdles (17.1 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:03.8), with Jake Suddaby going 11:38 in the 3,200-meter run. Westhill/Ludden also got first place in the 4×800 relay in a time of 8:56 flat.
On the girls side, Westhill-Ludden lost, 72-69, to CBA, finding success in distance races, where Alaina Kenny took the 1,500 in 5:25.6 and Genny Corcoran claimed the 800 in 2:46.2. Annibel Coolican claimed the 400 hurdles in 1:14.2.
Of the six field events, the Warriors won two of them, seeing Mary Kate Washburn throw the shot put 28’11” and Katie DeVeyra clear 7 feet in the pole vault. CBA’s stars included sprinter Anna Schug, who swept the 100 (12.8 seconds), 200 (24.7 seconds) and 400 (1:02.7).
Solvay met Cazenovia and got swept, the boys taking a 96-44 defeat, while the girls Bearcats lost, 111-30, to the Laker. Samantha Waters got a sweep of the throwing events, tossing the discus 82’9” and throwing the shot put 28’1”. Katie Harrington finishing first in the shot put by clearing 5 feet.
During Friday’s Chittenango Invitational, Westhill-Ludden earned 36 points on the girls side, claiming fourth place in an 18-team field, while Marcellus had 16 points on the boys side.
Half of the girls Warriors’ points came from a 1-2 finish in the pole vault, where Kaherine Doherty cleared 9 feet and Noelle Coolican, topping 8’6”, was runner-up.
Annibel Coolican got third place in the girls pentathlon, earning 2,110 points. Washburn (who was fourth in the shot put), Doherty, Isabella Haber and Olivia Dagineau were third in the 4×100 in 54.85 seconds. Abby Gugel had J-E’s lone point in the Fleet Feet Mile, finishing sixth in 5:28.80, while in the normal mile Kenny finished fifth for Westhill-Ludden.
Sean Raymond gave Marcellus a second-place finish in the boys pentathlon, picking up 2,361 points, just behind Oneida’s Austyn Kopack (2,440 points). Noah Townsend cleared 5’8” to finish second to Auburn’s Kavon Hunt (6’2”) in the high jump, where Roland (5’6”) was fourth. Whipple took seventh in the shot put and Jimmy Kernan was seventh in the discus.
