The Cazenovia Board of Education last week officially awarded the bid contracts for both the $7.4 million district-wide capital improvement project and for a $100,000 electrical work project at Burton Street Elementary School. Bids for both projects “came in very favorably,” and the nine different contracts for the capital improvement project all had between six and 10 bidders each with “some very competitive numbers,” said Assistant Superintendent Bill Furlong at the board’s Feb. 23 regular monthly meeting. The projects, which have been in the works since last year, will upgrade, improve, renovate or replace nearly all aspects of the physical plants of all three school buildings in the district between now and 2016. An anticipated 69 percent of the project will be paid for by New York state building aid, while the balance will be funded by a municipal bond issue to be repaid over 15 years, beginning in 2016-17. The bids and winners for the nine different contracts for the Capital Improvement Project were:
—General trades: Out of seven bids received, the winner was Richard Alexander, of Marcy, at $1,333,880. —Site work: Out of five bids received, the winner was Cunningham Excavation, of Cazenovia, at $354,648. —Roofing: Out of 12 bids received, the winner was WCA Roofing, of East Syracuse, at $94,000.
—Plumbing: Out of six bids received, the winner was H.J. Brandeles, of Utica, at $196,400.
—Heating, ventilating and air conditioning: Out of five bids received, the winner was H.J. Brandeles, of Utica, at $1,388,000 —Electrical: Out of six bids received, the winner was Ridley Electric, of Syracuse, at $528,700. —Window and masonry: Out of six bids received, the winner was Flower City Glass, of Rochester, at $967,781. —Boiler room mechanical: Out of six bids received, the winner was H.J. Brandeles, of Utica, at $259,800. —Building automation system controls: Out of three bids received, the winner was Packaged Air Conditioning, also known as PASCO, of Syracuse, at $345,900. Representatives from project architect Tetra Tech, of Ithaca, told the school board last week that they have checked the references and interviewed all of the apparent low bidders for the projects and feel they are all qualified and able to do the contracted work. With the bids now awarded, the contractors will meet with the project architects and coordinators and establish and coordinate schedules, with construction planned to begin this summer. The “vast majority” of the summer 2015 work will occur at the Emory Avenue buildings complex, with Burton Street projects planned to occur during summer 2016, Furlong said. The other contract bid awarded by the school board last week was for a $100,000 electrical project at Burton Street Elementary School, which was awarded to Ridley Electric, of Syracuse, out of nine buds received. That work is scheduled to occur during April break this year, since the project must be completed by June 30, Furlong said.
