Though it’s just a temporary fix for larger facilities problems, the Cicero Town Board has found a solution for the ice buildup on the highway garage.
The board approved the installation of heating tape to melt the ice above the main door and on the first bay of the garage at its Feb. 25 meeting.
The total cost of the project is not to exceed $7,221, which breaks down to $4,123 for the heating tape, $1,098 for electrical service and about $2,000 for installation.
“We went along with that knowing that it’s not the complete answer,” Supervisor Jessica Zambrano told the Star-Review.
Zambrano said the town won’t see results right away. The installation of the heating tape must wait until the weather improves.
“We probably won’t get any benefit from it until next year,” Zambrano said.
As for Cicero’s other building problems, Zambrano said the Buildings Advisory Committee is still evaluating the highway garage, the police building and the town office building.
She said it would be costly to bring the highway building into compliance with current codes, and the garage is not large enough to meet the town’s needs anyway, so it likely will need to be rebuilt.
The Buildings Advisory Committee will present its final report at the March 25 town board meeting.

✓ The town continues to gather information on the vacant lot at 137 Verda Ave., North Syracuse.

She said the property may remain in the town’s possession “in perpetuity.”
✓ Councilor Mark Venesky reminded the town board that the ethics board recommended ethics training for town employees and elected officials.
Zambrano said Deputy Supervisor Bill Meyer advised that she contact Onondaga County officials to research their ethics training practices. Zambrano said the county gave her the names of two consultants, whose contact information she shared with Venesky so he can look into the matter.
