Both inside and outside the CNY Counties League, the Liverpool girls swim team remained on a roll, improving to 3-0 on the young season.
It started last Tuesday night with the Warriors handling the combined Syracuse city squad 92-68, with Madeline Murphy and Sydnie Sovinsky both winning a pair of races.
Murphy beat Olivia Corlett, 1:08.26 to 1:11.65, in the 100-yard butterfly, and moved on from there to the 100 backstroke, where she won in 1:08.72 as Sara Cussen (1:11.53) got second place.
Sovinsky started out in the 200 freestyle, where she posted a time of 2:02.71, far ahead of Maddie Rose (2:17.38), and it was even more lopsided in the 500 freestyle, where Sovinsky finished in 5:28.56, and Julia Telesca (5:52.99) was in the second spot.
Corlett earned her title in the 50 freestyle in 27.39 seconds, with Telesca (28.61 seconds) behind her. Claire Donovan won the 200 individual medley in 2:35.32, getting away from Stephanie Adams (2:40.18), with Rose (1:02.22) beating Donovan (1:04.96) in the 100 freestyle.
Ali Testone was victorious in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.46, while Marissa Pisegna (1:27.06) was second. Alyssa Vadala impressed on the diving board, earning 225.65 points to finish ahead of Kelley Townley’s total of 182.95 points.
Starting a relay sweep, Corlett, Murphy, Telesca and Testone went 2:06.42 in the 200 medley before Sovinsky and Rose joined Corlett and Sarah Piraino in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.15). Later, Murphy, Sovinsky, Rose and Nicole Abbott went 4:06.27 in the 400 freestyle relay.
In Friday’s meet at Skaneateles, the Warriors maintained its torrid pace, rolling to a 104-80 victory over the Lakers as, once more, Murphy and Sovinsky led the way.
Going through the sprints, Murphy swam the 50 freestyle in 24.69 seconds, with Corlett (26.03 seconds) behind her, and in the 100 freestyle Murphy gained first place in 54.70 seconds. Sovinsky rolled to a time of 2:19.52 in the 200 IM and also prevailed in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.51.
Vadala improved to 244.45 points in diving, with Townley also moving up on the scoreboard to 200.85 points, just before Corlett claimed the 100 backstroke in 1:07.53. Telesca swam the 200 freestyle in 2:11.36 as Rose edged Testone, 1:20.32 to 1:21.60, in the 100 breaststroke.
Liverpool also claimed two of the three relay races. Telesca, Murphy, Sovinsky and Piraino went 1:46.13 in the 200 freestyle relay before Adams, Abbott, Donovan and Flynn got first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:54.65.
When Cicero-North Syracuse returned to the Le Moyne College pool to face Mexico Thursday night, it won all but two of the events on the card and defeated the Tigers 96-80.
Lauren Thorne and Breanna Ruffrage both won two races. Thorne got started in the 200 freestyle, making her way to first place in 2:09.94, and then handled the longest race of the meet, too, winning the 500 freestyle in 5:43.71.
As for Ruffrage, she claimed first place in the 50 freestyle in 27.02 seconds and also beat the field in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.53. Working together, Ruffrage, Thorne, Sarah Walter and Brooke Fedi took the 400 freestyle relay in 4:08.64, with Ruffrage, Kelly Festa, Amy Bubb and Kiersten Coates and K Festa swimming the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.46.
On her own, Festa prevailed in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.67, with Walter first in the 100 freestyle (59.79 seconds) and Jamie Rolf beating the field in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.99. Earlier in the meet, Rolf joined Coates, Kayla Miller and Carla Champagne as C-NS put up a time of 2:08.11 in the 200 medley relay.
C-NS would look for another win Wednesday night, at Auburn, while Liverpool hosted Fayetteville-Manlius that same night.
