Voters oppose building new fire station

Voters turned down an opportunity to build a new fire station on Tuesday. The Lakeside Fire District, which includes Seneca Knolls and the southern part of Van Buren, proposed spending no more than $6.2 million to demolish the current station and replace it with a new facility at its current location, 1002 State Fair Blvd.

Five hundred and eighty three residents cast their ballots with an overwhelming majority, 437, voting against the project and 146 voting yes.

“I’m not sure where we go from here,” said Commissioner Steve Erwin shortly after the polls closed.
