Once the Liverpool softball team made its way to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a week of intensive game action during the April school break, it had long shaken off its April 14 defeat to rival Cicero-North Syracuse.
Proof of this was found in the April 19 opener at Myrtle Beach, where the Warriors blanked Westerly 12-0 as Dana Nicoletti pitched five innings and only allowed a hit before Jenna Wike got two innings of one-hit relief.
All of Liverpool’s runs came in the first four innings, capped by a six-run second. Wike, Katie Yudin, Taylor Charles and Nicole Cerrone each had two RBIs, while Nicoletti and Alicia Hansen both managed two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Peyton Bellrose also drove in a run.
Facing Westerly again on April 20, the Warriors prevailed once more, an 8-1 decision where Bellrose threw a complete game, giving up just three hits.
Still, the game wasn’t settled until Liverpool put together a five-run sixth inning. Bellrose herself managed two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, with Hansen scoring three runs. Nicoletti and Charles had two hits apiece as Wike and Dominique LaRose drove in runs.
A day later, it was Liverpool rolling past Wilson 11-1, starting out with a four-run first inning and adding runs in every other inning except the third to support Nicoletti’s four-hit pitching effort.
Hansen and Bellrose each singled, tripled, scored two runs and drove in two others, while Wike managed a double and team-high three RBIs. Cerrone, Yudin and Ericka Sadowski had one RBI apiece.
The trip ended two days later with the Warriors shutting out Andrews 5-0, getting a three-hit shutout from Bellrose as it scored two runs in the first inning and three more times in the fifth.
And most of the offense came from Hansen, who hit a home run and drove in four of Liverpool’s five runs. Sadowski had two hits and scored twice, with LaRose also scoring a run.
